In this Israeli operation against Syria, two special forces played an unusual role: the reconnaissance team of the General Staff directly under the Israel Defense Forces and the "Kingfisher" commando of the Israel Air Force.

Sayer et Matkal (Unit 767) of the General Staff is the most important intelligence-gathering special force of the IDF, and it is also recognized as the Israeli special force with the strongest combat capability.
This unit is mainly a battlefield intelligence gathering unit, which will go to the enemy’s rear in wartime to obtain strategically important information. Like most Israeli special forces, the reconnaissance and search team of the General Staff is also a long-range reconnaissance and patrol unit with superb anti-terrorism ability, which can carry out hostage rescue operations.
The training system of the reconnaissance team of the General Staff Department is as long as 20 months: 4 months of basic infantry training; Two months of advanced infantry training; Three weeks of skydiving training; Five weeks’ training in the Defence Force Anti-terrorism School; Anti-terrorism training within the army; Long-range reconnaissance patrol combat training, especially directional training, which is extremely important for military operations.
"kingfisher" commando
In this operation, the "Kingfisher" commandos seized the favorable terrain before the Israeli air force fighters arrived, and indicated the bombing target for the air force fighters with a laser instrument.
Sayer et Shaldag (Unit 5101) is one of the best special forces of the Israeli Air Force, and its combat capability is second only to that of the reconnaissance team of the General Staff. The "Kingfisher" commandos are called "special open space instruction teams" within the IDF special forces, and are often sent by the IDF to perform confidential tasks throughout the Middle East.
Established in 1974, the Ministry underwent an important reorganization in the mid-1990s, and became the main airlift of attack force by the IDF. The training system of "Kingfisher" commandos lasted for 22 months.
The "Kingfisher" commandos have participated in almost all the important Israeli special operations since the 1980s, the most famous of which was to provide assistance for the "Ausilla" operation that attacked the Iraqi nuclear reactor on July 6, 1981. Before the attack, a team of "Kingfisher" went deep into Iraq on a CH-53 helicopter, waiting for the arrival of eight Israeli Air Force F-16 fighters. After the fighter plane arrived, the team helped the pilot aim at the reactor and evaluate the bombing effect. The bomb dropped by the F-16 destroyed the nuclear reactor and set back Iraq’s nuclear program for several years.
During the "Peace Operation in Galilee" in 1982, with the assistance of the "Kingfisher" commando, the Israeli Air Force destroyed most of the air defense weapon positions and air defense missile bases in Lebanon within a few hours. In the battle for air superiority, the Israeli air force shot down more than 80 Syrian planes in the melee, but it was unscathed.
However, on June 10, 1982, a "Kingfisher" detachment participated in a notorious operation. In the battle, General Adam was killed by the PLO guerrillas. General Adam is the highest rank officer in Israel who has been killed since 1982. At that time, the special forces Gorani and the "Kingfisher" both took part in the battle. General Adam and his assistant joined the "Kingfisher" team on a reconnaissance mission. The team was ambushed by the enemy, and General Adam and his assistant were killed. This result shamed the "kingfisher" for several years.
"Kingfisher" and several IDF elite force also participated in the "operation desert storm" in 1991. In that operation, they used unmarked jeeps equipped with anti-tank missiles to search for Scud missiles in Iraq, and successfully tracked and destroyed several mobile Scud missile launchers and several Iraqi army headquarters.
