A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce answered a reporter’s question on the recent US economic and trade sanctions against China.

A reporter asked: The United States recently identified eight China science and technology companies as "military-related enterprises in China" and listed many institutions and companies in the "entity list". At the same time, the United States will pass a Xinjiang-related bill to ban the import of China’s Xinjiang-related products. What is China’s reaction to this?

A: Under the banner of so-called "human rights", the U.S. side generalized national security, fabricated reasons out of thin air without any factual basis, used state power, and repeatedly abused export control, investment restrictions, and banned imports of Xinjiang-related products, so as to continuously suppress relevant entities in China and set restrictions on normal economic and trade cooperation between enterprises of the two countries. China strongly protests and resolutely opposes this bullying practice of the US.

These political manipulations by the United States undermine market principles, violate WTO rules and economic laws, harm the legitimate rights and interests of China enterprises, and also harm the interests of American enterprises and investors, which is not conducive to the stability of the global industrial chain supply chain and the recovery of the world economy. The United States also imposed sanctions on medical research institutions in China, ignoring the scientific spirit, violating humanitarian principles and the common values of all mankind.

The United States should immediately stop its wrong practices, immediately stop interfering with the normal economic and trade cooperation between Chinese and American enterprises, immediately stop infringing on the right to subsistence and development of people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, and return to the correct track of win-win cooperation. China will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and the legitimate rights and interests of China enterprises.
